Sugar-sweet notes of maple syrup mix with delicious notes of vanilla and pecan in our Maple Sugar Candle.

Inspired by the Anishinaabe tradition of sugarbush tapping, designer Sarah Agaton Howes (Anishinaabe-Ojibwe) shares a bit of “the good life” with this candle. “Fall is particularly sweet as we gather the foods grown all summer and prepare for the resting time of winter,” shares Sarah. “Anishinaabe people center our lives around the seasonal activities of sugarbush tapping, wild rice harvesting, fish spawning, and more elements of our Good Life.” The sugary sap can be turned into syrup, taffy, and sugar as a delicious and traditional treat.

Poured in a classic smoky-black candleholder, our label designed by Sarah and includes the word ziinzibaakwaad, which is Anishinaabemowin (the Ojibwe language) for “maple sugar.” “It was really important to us to include an Anishinaabemowin word on the packaging of Sarah’s candle,” shares Colleen Eighth Generation CEO. “Reclaiming and learning our traditional languages is such an important experience for many Native people. Being able to share our languages with a wide audience is a really special next step in authentically sharing our culture with the world.”
