We asked artist and friend Adrienne Benjamin about her inspiration in revitalizing this garment "Traditional hoods were functional (and in some places ceremonial items) worn by Anishinaabe people throughout Anishinaabe akiing through time immemorial. They were made from rectangular pieces of cloth; likely wool or other heavy materials for warmth, weather, and wind protection. They are distinctive for their elaborate decoration utilizing beadwork or appliqué in floral and abstract designs. They have recently been making a resurgence as Anishinaabe people are studying and reclaiming historical fashions that were forcibly lost to time during colonization and assimilation tactics."

Adrienne is pictured wearing her Woodland regalia with hood made by Lavender Doris.
